Mark Bortz Wins MAC Sixth Man Award
A 6-10 senior forward, Bortz appeared in all 27 games as a reserve and ranked second on the team in scoring (10.6 ppg) and rebounding (5.8 rpg). He led the Bulls and ranked fourth in the MAC in blocked shots with 32. He also posted a career-best 24 steals this season. "I am truly happy that he got named Sixth Man of the Year because here is a young man that made great sacrifices for the good of the program," head coach Reggie Witherspoon said. "He is obviously good enough to start not only here at Buffalo, but at a large number of programs around the country. He came here for the right reasons and now he is being recognized for it." This is the third season that the conference has given out the award. Reggie Berry of Western Michigan won the award last season and Whitney Robinson of Central Michigan took home the honor in 2003.
Bortz will be in action tonight when the Bulls host Northern Illinois in the opening round of the First Energy Mid-American Conference Tournament at Alumni Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 pm. |
