Buffalo Hoops Preparing For ZipsBUFFALO, NY The UB men's basketball team will be looking to close out the regular season on a seven-game winning streak when they face the Akron Zips at James A. Rhodes Arena this Saturday at Noon. The Bulls (15-11, 10-7 MAC) have not won seven straight since the 1990-91 season, when they were still competing at the Division III level. During its current streak which most recently included Wednesday's 77-49 home victory over Ohio UB has recorded three road victories. Buffalo has not been involved in a game decided by single digits since defeating Central Michigan by a 75-66 score on February 14th. Junior point guard Turner Battle (Kernersville, NC/East Forsyth) leads UB with a scoring average of 14.3 points per game. He tallied a career-high 26 points in the Bulls' 89-83 home victory over Akron in late January.
Akron (13-13, 7-10 MAC) is coming off a 78-68 loss at Marshall on Wednesday. The Zips have had a strong season at home though, posting a 9-3 record thus far. Senior guard Derrick Tarver leads not only his team, but also the conference in scoring (22.8 points per game). The Zips' primary post presence is freshman Jeremiah Wood, who averages 10.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest. While Akron holds a 16-13 edge in the all-time series, Buffalo has taken the last two
match-ups between the squads. However, the Zips have posted four straight home wins over the Bulls. |
