Men's Basketball Sets Travel Plans For Miami, OHBUFFALO, NY The University at Buffalo men's basketball team will travel to Miami (Ohio) for a first-round First Energy Mid-American Men's Basketball Tournament game on Monday, March 4 at 7 p.m. EST. The Bulls finished the regular season with a 12-17 overall record and a 7-11 conference mark, which was good enough for 10th place in the conference. Buffalo will play at the number seven seeded RedHawks, who lost to Kent State, 70-67, on Saturday. The winner of Monday's game will then advance to the quarterfinals on Thursday, March 7, and will play the second seeded Ball State Cardinals, who earned a first-round bye, at Gund Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. The semi-finals will be held on Friday and the championship game will take place on Saturday and will be carried live nationally on ESPN2 with a tip-off time of 7 p.m. EST. The winner of the MAC Tounament earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA men's Tournament. Buffalo's 12 overall victories this year were the program's most since joining the MAC in 1998 and the seven conference wins were more than they had earned in the previous three years when they went just 6-48 in conference play. Senior Darcel Williams (Buffalo, NY/Traditional) is leading the Bulls in scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.4 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per game. Louis Campbell (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) is second in scoring with 12.8 points per game and needs just 27 points to move into fourth place on UB's all-time scoring list. The senior enters the game with 1,377 points. Buffalo is 0-2 in MAC Tournament play after falling at Marshall (83-66) in 2000 and losing at Ohio (78-101) last year. Last year's MAC men's tournament established a championship game record crowd with
12,172 in attendance as Kent State defeated Miami 67-61 to earn the NCAA berth. |
