BUFFALO, NY – Seniors Calvin Cage (Capitol Heights, MD/Bladensburg), Mario Jordan (Cleveland, OH/Benedictine) and Roderick Middleton (University Park, IL/Marian Catholic), playing in the final regular season home game of their careers, led the University at Buffalo men's basketball team to an 83-71 win over Akron at Alumni Arena on Wednesday night. The trio combined for 53 points to help lead the Bulls to their second straight win.

Buffalo (18-11, 8-9 MAC) led the game nearly wire-to-wire. Although it was senior night, it was freshman Eric Moore (Morristown, NJ/St. Benedict's Prep) who sparked the Bulls early. Moore scored all of his career-high 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers, in the first half to help the Bulls build a 10-point lead in the opening stanza. Akron hit 7-of-9 three-pointers in the first half to keep the game close and trailed, 39-32, at the break.

Leading 51-45 with 12:16 remaining, the Bulls went on a 13-4 scoring run aided by a pair of Cage three-pointers to take a 15-point lead with 7:34 left. Buffalo would hold a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.

Cage finished the night with 22 points to lead all scorers. Jordan posted his second straight double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Middleton and Yassin Idbihi (Tangier, Morocco/Schloss Hagerhof) added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

UB, the best free throw shooting team in the conference, had another good night at the line, shooting 24-for-27. Cage and Jordan each made eight free throws.

The Bulls locked down defensively in the second stanza and held the Zips to 13-of-33 shooting in the half. UB had eight steals and forced 13 turnovers. Conversely, the Bulls committed only nine turnovers in the game - their best effort in seven outings.

"I think our guys really stepped it up defensively, again," head coach Reggie Witherspoon said. "Our guys took the challenge of playing them and really embraced the senior night the way it is supposed to be."

Akron (20-8, 13-4 MAC) was led by Cedrick Middleton, the younger brother of Roderick, who scored 14 points. Dru Joyce added nine points and 11 assists for the Zips.

With the win, the Bulls are assured of playing a home game in the first round of the First Energy Mid-American Conference Tournament beginning on Monday. The Bulls opponent is yet to be determined.

The Bulls will close out the regular season at Miami (OH) on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.

Wednesday night's game with Akron will air on LCTV on Saturday at 7:00 am and 7:00 pm and again on Sunday at 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.
