Battle Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

BUFFALO, NY University at Buffalo men's basketball player Turner Battle (Kernersville, NC/East Forsyth) has been named Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week, as announced today by the league office.

Battle, a communications major with a 3.46 grade point average, scored 19 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead the Bulls to a 90-66 win over Eastern Michigan on Tuesday, February 11 to snap a 12-game losing streak and give Buffalo its first conference win of the season. The point guard added five assists and four steals while committing just one turnover in 34 minutes of play. The game would prove to be Battle's last game of the year as he fractured and dislocated his left middle finger in practice later in the week and underwent surgery, ending his season. Battle was leading the Bulls in scoring (12.7 points per game), assists per game (4.5) and steals per game (1.9) at the time of his injury while starting all 20 games on the year and averaging a team-high 35.3 minutes per contest.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by one of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.

The Bulls (4-17, 1-11 MAC) are at Kent State tonight for a 7 pm contest with the Golden Flashes.
