Bulls Slowed by Miami (OH), 64-55
Buffalo (8-16, 2-10 MAC) got off to a good start and a three-pointer by Sean Smiley (Erie, PA/McDowell) gave the Bulls a 15-11 lead with 12 minutes left in the first half. Andy Robinson (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) hit a layup to put the Bulls up 23-19. However, the RedHawks closed the half on a 15-5 scoring run to take a 34-28 lead at the break. The Bulls' shooting woes continued into the second half as they scored only one field goal in the first 10 minutes of the second stanza, including a number of missed shots in the paint. Miami capitalized and built its lead to as many as 20 points. Buffalo was led by Byron Mulkey (Wheatfield, NY/Niagara Wheatfield) who scored a season-high 15 points. Robinson and Calvin Betts (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) also scored in double-figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively. The Bulls outrebounded the RedHawks, 33-31. Max Boudreau (Montreal, Quebec/Champlain St. Lambert) pulled down seven rebounds and Greg Gamble (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) added six boards. Miami (13-11, 7-5 MAC) was led by Kenny Hayes who scored 16 points and Tim Pollitz who added 12. "There are times when you don't score a lot and you have to be prepared to win a low scoring game," head coach Reggie Witherspoon said. "Right now, mentally we are not mature enough to do that."
Buffalo will remain at home and host Kent State on Tuesday night at Alumni Arena. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 pm.
