Turner Battle To Miss Remainder of Season

Broken finger to keep Bulls' leading scoring out of lineup

BUFFALO, NY Turner Battle (Kernersville, NC/East Forsyth) fractured and dislocated his left middle finger in practice on Feb. 13. The injury requires surgery and as a result the sophomore point guard will miss the remainder of the 2002-03 season. Prior to the injury, Battle led the Bulls in scoring (12.7 ppg.), assists (4.5 apg.) and steals (1.9 spg.). He had started every game of his career (50).

"Obviously it's a blow to us," Head Coach Reggie Witherspoon said. "It's a blow for him because he is losing some of his sophomore year. We're really hoping for a speedy, solid, 100 percent recovery for Turner, that's what we're hoping and praying for right now."

Senior Davis Lawrence (Brooklyn, NY/New Utrecht) and freshman Roderick Middleton (University Park, IL/Marian Catholic) will likely split time at the point in place of Battle. Lawrence started 18 games at point guard during the 2000-01 season.

"We just hope our younger guys are prepared to play the minutes," Witherspoon added citing freshmen Calvin Cage (Bowie, MD/Bladensburg) and Mario Jordan (Cleveland, OH/Benedictine).

The Bulls, who are coming off a 90-66 win over Eastern Michigan on Feb. 11, will host Ball State on Saturday night at Alumni Arena. Tipoff is slated for 7 pm.
