Bulls Fall to MAC Leading Kent

UB Loses 81-65 to First Place Golden Flashes

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's basketball team gave defending MAC Tournament champion Kent Golden Flashes all they could handle in the first half before losing ground in the second half and eventually losing 81-65.

UB got on the board first with a jumper by Damien Foster (Buffalo, NY/Traditional) and the lead went back and forth over the next several minutes. Kent would eventually take control and push their lead to as many as 11 points, 31-20, with 5:46 to play in the half. The Bulls would charge back, using a 9-2 run to close the gap. Nikolai Alexeev (Minsk, Belarus) would hit a three-pointer with a minute to play and cut the Kent lead to just three points, 37-34, going into halftime.

In the second half, UB came out strong as Louis Campbell (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) would score the first two buckets of the half and give the Bulls a 38-37 lead. Kent responded with a three-pointer from Demetric Shaw to regain the lead, but a fast-break layup by Foster tied the game at 40-40 with 17:23 remaining. The Golden Flashes would score two baskets to take the lead back, before a Foster free throw cut the lead to three points, 44-41, with 15:26 left. That was as close as the Bulls would get the rest of the game as the Kent depth and inside game would eventually wear down the Bulls. Kent would gradually build their lead up and lead by as many 18 points before claiming the 81-65 win.

Buffalo (5-19, 3-12) was led by Mike McKie (Brooklyn, NY/Tilden) with 15 points and a game-high eight rebounds and blocked three shots. Louis Campbell added 13 points, six rebounds and four assists and Kerry Hendrickson (Brooklyn, NY/Tilden) and Damien Foster had 11 points each. Kent (20-4, 12-3) remained on top of the MAC East Division with the win. The Golden Flashes were led by John Whorton with a game-high 18 points and seven rebounds. Andrew Mitchell and Trevor Huffman had 15 points each and Huffman dished out six assists.
