Buffalo Men's Hoops Visits Kent State

Bulls going for fifth win in six games on Wednesday evening

BUFFALO, NY The University at Buffalo men's basketball team will look to even off both its overall and conference record at 7 pm on Wednesday at Kent State's Memorial Athletic Center. It will certainly be a tall task though, against a Golden Flashes team that sits atop the Mid-American Conference East Division.

UB (9-10, 5-6 MAC) is coming off a 77-58 trouncing of Marshall on Saturday. The Bulls received dominant games out of its post players junior Mark Bortz (Commerce Township, MI/Walled Lake Central) and freshman Yassin Idbihi (Tangier, Morocco/Schloss Hagerhof). Bortz finished with 21 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks. Meanwhile, Idbihi chipped in with a career-best 19 points.

One of the few problems that Buffalo has experienced as of late has been its inconsistency from the charity stripe. In their last three games, the Bulls are just 41-of-82 (50.0 percent) from the free throw line.

Kent State (16-3, 10-1 MAC) comes into the game having won six straight and 11 of its last 12 contests. The Golden Flashes lone conference blemish was a mid-January loss at Miami.

Senior center John Edwards leads Kent State with both 13.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. He is shooting a torrid 52.6 percent from the field.

The Golden Flashes have a significant perimeter presence as well, with a MAC-best 40.7 shooting percentage from behind the three-point arc.

Kent State holds a 12-1 lead in the all-time series between the schools, with Buffalo's lone win coming over the Golden Flashes' 2001-02 squad that eventually moved on to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. Since that time, Kent State has won three straight over the Bulls.
