Falcons Fly To Win Over BullsBUFFALO, NY - Keith McLeod and Len Matela combined for 37 points on 14-of-24 shooting from the floor as Bowling Green shot 57% from the floor on the road to down Buffalo, 70-52, in a Mid-American Conference game at Alumni Arena. Both McLeod and Matela hit 7-of-12 shots from the field and the Falcons' defense limited Buffalo to 34% shooting for the contest. Trent Jackson added 15 points for Bowling Green (10-10, 6-5 in the MAC), winners of three straight. Buffalo (2-18, 0-11) was paced by Jason Robinson (Seattle, WA/Curtis) - who had 14 points - and Robert Brown (Oak Park, MI/Oak Park) who had his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Bulls have lost 13 straight. The game was decided in the final 2:04 of the first half. The Bulls used a 9-2 run to cut the Bowling Green lead to 29-21 and appeared to have momentum on their side. However, on the ensuing possession by Bowling Green, McLeod leaped over Foster for a rebound and landed on the floor. Foster was whistled for a foul and then a technical for arguing the call. The Falcons used that momentum to close the half with a 9-0 run and go to intermission with a 38-21 lead. "That was a huge swing because we thought we had a good block out," said Buffalo coach Reggie Witherspoon. "The next thing we know we go from being on a roll to getting rolled." The second half didn't get any better for Buffalo as Bowling Green opened the half with a 6-0 run and opened as much as a 25-point lead to 58-33 with 8:50 remaining. Matela took over in the second half, scoring 11 of his 17 points after the break. The final margin was as close as Buffalo got in the second half. "They did a terrific job and we didn't," said Witherspoon of Bowling Green. "They did a good job defensively, but taking nothing away from them, we did a lot of dribbling and standing around. We didn't play like we're capable of." Damien Foster (Buffalo, NY/Traditional) was the only other
UB player in double figures with 12 points. The Bulls hit just 3-of-18 shots
from beyond the arc in the game. |
