CLEVELAND, OH On Monday, University at Buffalo junior point guard Turner Battle (Kernersville, NC/East Forsyth) was named Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the East Division.

Battle led the Bulls to back-to-back wins, 89-83 over Akron and 84-75 over Ball State, to push UB into a tie for third place in the East Division. Battle averaged 23.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals on the week. Against Akron, Battle netted a career-high 26 points on 9-for-12 from the field and 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. He also dished out six assists. In handing Ball State its first conference home loss of the season, Battle tallied 20 points, nine rebounds and three assists. He was 3-for-3 from three-point range at Ball State and was 7-for-7 for the week.

The Kernersville, NC native leads the Bulls in scoring (14.2 ppg), assists (3.3 apg) and steals (1.7 spg). He is the second UB player to earn Player of the Week honors this season as Mario Jordan (Cleveland, OH/Benedictine) also won the award on December 8. It is the first time Battle has earned the honor.

Buffalo also learned on Monday that Indiana State will be its opponent in the ESPN Bracket Buster game to be played on Feb. 21. The Bulls will travel to Terre Haute, IN to face the Sycamores for only the second time in school history. Indiana State has won the only meeting between the schools, 102-73, in the season-opener to the 1975-76 season.

UB is 8-9 overall and 4-5 in the conference. The Bulls are currently riding a three-game winning streak and will next face-off against Eastern Michigan at Alumni Arena on Wednesday night at 7 pm.
