UB's McKie Gets MAC Honor

Bulls Forward Named Defensive Player of the Week

BUFFALO, NY - Sophomore forward Mike McKie (Brooklyn, NY/Tilden) was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week today for his efforts in helping the Bulls to a 2-1 record last week.

McKie recorded 12 blocked shots in the three games last week, including a career-high five blocks in a win over Western Michigan. In the Bulls 84-83 upset win over Akron, he had 14 points and pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds. Of his 14 points, two of those came on the game winning bucket with seven seconds left. He repeated his rebounding effort with 12 in the 63-60 win over Western Michigan two nights later. In the loss to Ball State, McKie had seven rebounds, all on the defensive end, and blocked three shots.

McKie becomes the first men's player to win the award since Buffalo joined the conference last season. He is averaging 8.7 points and a team-best 5.7 rebounds per game this year. McKie also leads the MAC in blocked shots with 2.37 per game. His 45 blocks this year also puts him ninth all-time in UB's single season records.
