Buffalo Falls at Kent State, 70-52
Early hot shooting helped the Golden Flashes get off to a fast start. After Greg Gamble (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) opened the game with a three-pointer to give the Bulls a 3-0 lead, Kent State went on a 25-4 run to take a 25-7 lead and set the tone for the game. The Golden Flashes made good on five of their first six three-pointers during the run. A triple by DeAndre Haynes gave Kent State a 34-15 lead with 6:32 left in the first half. The Bulls rattled off eight straight points, capped by a Roderick Middleton (University Park, IL/Marian Catholic) three-pointer, to cut the Kent State advantage to 34-23 with 3:41 left in the half. The Golden Flashes scored the final four points of the half to take a 38-23 lead at the break. Kent State extended its lead to 62-39 midway through the second half. Buffalo mounted a 10-0 scoring run, including seven straight points by Yassin Idbihi (Tangier, Morocco/Schloss Hagerhof), to cut the Kent State lead to 62-49 with 6:32 remaining. However, that would be as close as the Bulls would get as the Golden Flashes secured the 18-point victory. Three days after shooting the second best field goal percentage in school history, Buffalo shot a season-low 34 percent from the floor in the game. UB committed 18 turnovers and was outrebounded 39-29. Buffalo (15-5, 5-4 MAC) was led by Idbihi who scored 16 points and added seven rebounds - both team highs. Calvin Cage (Capitol Heights, MD/Bladensburg) was the only other UB player to reach double-figures with 11 points. Kent State (14-6, 8-1 MAC) was led by Kevin Warzynski who scored 19 points and added seven rebounds. Jay Youngblood added 14 points for the Golden Flashes.
The Bulls will remain on the road and play at Akron on Wednesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
