Big Second Half Boosts Eastern Michigan Past Buffalo
It was a tight game early on with six ties and six lead changes in the first half. Moore scored 13 of his 22 points in the first half to pace the Bulls. The Eagles held a 37-35 lead at the break. The tide turned at the start of the second half as Eastern Michigan opened the stanza on an 11-0 scoring run to take 48-35 lead with 16:08 left. The Bulls seemed to be thrown off their game when they were whistled for eight fouls in the first 3:52 of the half. Back-to-back three-pointers by Moore cut the Eagles’ lead to seven with 15:18 left. A pair of free throws by Yassin Idbihi (Tangier, Morocco/Schloss Hagerhof) reduced the EMU lead to six with 14:32 left. However, that would be as close as the Bulls would get as the Eagles went on a 9-2 run to reestablish a 13-point lead. Eastern Michigan used the three-point shot to its advantage as it knocked down six treys in the final 14 minutes to thwart a UB comeback. The Eagles drained 11 treys for the game. The 89 points scored by Eastern Michigan were the most by a UB opponent this season. The Eagles were led by Carlos Medlock who scored a game-high 26 points. Eastern Michigan (8-12, 3-4 MAC) shot 52.7 percent from the floor, including a sizzling 59.3 percent in the second half. Idbihi notched his eighth double-double of the season and third in as many games with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Max Boudreau (Montreal, Quebec/Champlain St. Lambert) had another strong start with 11 points, including a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Greg Gamble (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) had a career-high six assists to go along with eight points and two rebounds.
The Bulls (9-11, 1-6 MAC) will remain on the road and play at Western Michigan on Wednesday night. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 pm.
