Bobcats Outbattle Bulls, 83-66BUFFALO, NY - Ohio University put four players in double figures and shot 48% from the field to score an 83-66 Mid-American Conference victory over Buffalo at Alumni Arena before 1,612 fans. The Bobcats, who have won nine of their last 11, were led by the one-two post combination of Brandon Hunter and Patrick Flomo. Hunter had 16 points and nine rebounds while Flomo had 14 points, five rebounds and six blocked shots for Ohio, who outrebounded Buffalo by a 41-32 advantage and used different presses to force 15 Buffalo turnovers. Flomo had 12 of his 14 points and four blocked shots after intermission as Ohio held off several Buffalo rallies. The Bulls fell to 2-14 overall and 0-9 in the MAC, losing their ninth straight overall. "When we're outsized like we were tonight we have to win the battle on the perimeter and we weren't successful enough at that," said UB head coach Reggie Witherspoon, whose undermanned squad dressed just eight players. "They can takes chances defensively because they have Flomo in the back of their press and he definitely made a difference tonight." Ohio (11-6, 6-2 in the MAC) scored the final four points of the first half to go to intermission with a 34-22 lead. Buffalo chipped into the lead early in the second half, using a 10-3 run to cut a 39-28 lead to 42-38 with 15:29 remaining in the game on a free throw by Robert Brown (Oak Park, MI/Oak Park). Brown scored 15 of his team-high 17 points in the second half for Buffalo. Ohio, however, withstood the UB rally and eventually used a 13-3 run later in the half to open up a 55-41 lead with 13:24 remaining and Buffalo could not get the lead to single digits the rest of the game. The Bulls got another strong game from senior Louis Campbell (Rahway, NJ/Rahway), who had 15 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Senior Damien Foster (Buffalo, NY/Traditional) added 12 points for Buffalo, including three three-pointers. For the game, UB hit 6-of-13 three-point shots but just 13-of-36 (36.1%) shots from two-point range. Junior Clement Smith (Brooklyn, NY/Westinghouse) had eight
rebounds and seven points for Buffalo, which plays at Northwestern of the Big
10 on Wednesday night.
