Robinson Deemed Eligible By UBBUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo junior forward Jason Robinson (Seattle, WA/Curtis) has been reinstated with the men's basketball program and is eligible to play Wednesday evening against Kent State. Robinson was initially declared ineligible for his failure to meet a Mid-American Conference mid-year eligibility standard. A clarification of the MAC eligibility standard by UB officials triggered a review of his status and revealed that he did satisfy the eligibility requirements. "The Mid-American Conference has high academic standards that all student-athletes are required to meet," said Director of Athletics Bob Arkeilpane. "Unfortunately, our initial review led us to the incorrect conclusion that Jason would not be eligible for the spring semester. When the situation was reviewed, it was determined that Jason did, indeed, meet the standard and we reinstated his eligibility immediately." "It is unfortunate that this situation occurred, however, in academic situations we will always err on the side of caution. We are pleased that Jason will be able to return to the men's basketball program," said Arkeilpane. Robinson is the team's second leading scorer at 15.1 points and tied for the team lead in rebounding at 6.1 boards per game. He did not make the trip to Bowling Green and Central Michigan pending final evaluation of his grades. In related news, freshman forward Karl Rainey (Buffalo, NY/Riverside)
has been declared academically ineligible for game action for not satisfying
the same conference eligibility criteria. Rainey had seen action in eight games
this year, averaging 2.0 points and 0.6 rebounds per game. |
