Golden Flashes Bury BullsKENT, OH - The University at Buffalo men's basketball team dropped a Mid-American Conference game at Kent State, falling 89-53 to the Golden Flashes. The first half saw Kent score the first six points of the game and jumped out to an 18-8 lead in the first eight minutes of the game. Trailing by 14 points, 30-16, the Bulls charged back with a 9-0 run of their own, five of those points scored by senior Jon Kleidon (Oak Park, IL/River Forest). From that point, the Golden Flashes responded with an 11-0 run with nine of those points scored by Geoffrey Vaughn, who came off the bench to score 13 points in the game, as Kent led 43-25 at the half. The Bulls finished the half with no field goals in the last 5:50 of the half. The second half started with a 24-5 run by Kent to open the game up. The Golden Flashes led by 35 points, 63-28, with 14:46 to play. Kent would use their full court press and the Bulls bad ball handling to push their lead to as many as 41 points, 87-46, with just under five minutes to play. UB again ended the second half much like the first, failing to score a field goal in the final 5:23 of the half, scoring their last seven point from the free throw line. The Bulls (3-12, 1-5) fell victim to a tenacious full-court press by the
Golden Flashes (12-2, 4-1) as the Kent defense had 19 steals while forcing UB
into 31 turnovers, the most for UB in any game this season. Kent had 11 of the
12 players in the game score and six players score in double figures, led
by Demetric Shaw with 14 points and six rebounds. Buffalo was led by Jon
Kleidon with 10 points off the bench. |
