UB Drops Sixth Straight

Knights Jump out to Quick Lead, Hold Off Bulls

Teaneck, NJ - In the last non-conference game of the season, the Bulls men's basketball team got behind early and couldn't come back against Fairleigh Dickinson, dropping their sixth straight game 72-57.

The Knights opened the game with a 7-0 run and eventually jumped out to a 25-9 lead early in the first half. The Bulls poor shooting from the field (7-of-23, .304) and 12 turnovers in the first half led to a 12 point halftime deficit. Despite being outscored 25-9 in the first 15 minutes of the half, UB fought back and outscored the Knights 13-9 in the last five minutes of the half.

The second half saw FDU come out and take control early again before the Bulls made a serious run. Trailing by 21 points, 46-25, with 16:37 remaining, UB went on a 12-2 run, cutting the lead to just 11 points. Nikolai Alexeev (Minsk, Belarus) scored seven of the Bulls 12 points during that run, which was capped off by two Rick Fox (Toledo, OH/St. Frances DeSalles) free throws at the 11:48 mark. Fairleigh Dickinson responded with a 11-2 run of their own after that, pushing the Knights lead to 21 points, 66-45, with 4:30 remaining and held on for the 72-57 win.

Alexeev led the Bulls with a game high 19 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field and 9-of-11 from the line. As a team, UB hit a season best 87.0% from the charity stripe, hitting 20-of-23 from the line. Davis Lawrence (Brooklyn, NY/New Utrecht) led the team with a career-high 6 rebounds in his first start of the season.

The Bulls fell to 2-9 on the season and now enter the Mid-American Conference schedule, beginning with a road trip at Eastern Michigan on January 5, before hosting Bowling Green on January 8.
