UB Men Lose To Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, PA - The UB men's basketball team fell behind early and could never come back, falling to Duquesne University 75-56 on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Dukes opened the game with an 11-2 run in the first seven minutes of the first half, and the Bulls could not recover from the initial nine-point deficit. Alexei Vasiliev (St. Petersburg, Russia/Russian Junior National) stopped the DU run with a three-pointer to make it 11-5 before the Dukes rallied off seven straight points. The lead got up to as much as 16 points, 25-9, with 6:38 remaining in the half. UB fought back and a Vasiliev layup with just under a minute to play sent the teams to the locker room at halftime with DU leading 30-19.

The second half saw the Dukes gradually push their lead back up to 16 points, 42-26, six minutes into the second half before the Bulls made a charge. UB went on a 9-2 run over the next two minutes to cut the lead back down to nine points, 44-35. Louis Campbell (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) ignited the run as he assisted Nate Johnson (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) on a layup, who converted the free throw for a three-point play. Johnson then assisted Campbell on his first of two-straight three-pointers as the Bulls tried to charge back.

The Dukes held their poise however, and UB could get no closer the rest of the game. The Dukes gradually increased their lead and finished with the games largest lead at the final buzzer, a 75-56 margin.

UB was led by sophomore Maliso Libomi (Malakoff, France), in a career-performance for him. Libomi recorded career-highs with 11 points and seven rebounds in the game, both team highs. Alexei Vasiliev also scored a career-high with 10 points.

The Bulls (1-2) will finally see action on their home court this week. UB will host Canisius College in the team's first game at the friendly confines of Alumni Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 24, with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff. The Bulls are 57-24 in home openers and a perfect 5-0 in openers under Head Coach Tim Cohane.
