Bulls Win A Thriller at CornellITHACA, NY - Alexei Vasiliev's dramatic three-pointer with :20 left in regulation gave the University at Buffalo a thrilling 64-63 non-conference win over Cornell at Newman Arena Tuesday night. The win evened the Bulls' record at 1-1 on the season and was the first Buffalo win at Cornell in five tries. The Bulls got a career-high 15 points from freshman Koran Godwin (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark), including 13 of them in the second half, and 13 points and six steals from sophomore Louis Campbell (Rahway, NJ/Rahway), who also assisted on Vasiliev's game-winning trifecta. The Bulls led by as many as 13 points (43-30) with 16:53 remaining in the game before the Big Red (0-1) started to climb back in. Cornell trailed 51-43 with 12:16 left before going on a 12-4 run to tie the game at 55-55 on a three- point jumper by Quran Pender with 4:21 left. Cornell took a 59-58 lead with 2:28 remaining before center Nikolai Alexeev (Vitebsk, Belarus) put UB back on top 60-59 with a pair of free throws with 2:04 left. Cornell regained the lead with :41 left on a jumper by Kevin Cuttica to make it 61-60, setting the stage for Vasiliev's heroics. Cornell had another chance but the Bulls forced a Big Red turnover with
3.9 seconds to play and were able to run out the clock after a Louis Campbell
free throw to win it. Sophomore Will Campbell (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free
Academy) added eight points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots
for the Bulls who play at Duquesne of the Atlantic 10 on Saturday in a 3:30
tipoff.
