UB Falls To Canisius

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo lost for just the second time at Marine Midland Arena, falling to Canisius 66-56 Saturday afternoon.

The Bulls took the first lead of the game on a jumper by Louis Campbell (Rahway, NJ/Rahway), but soon fell behind when Canisius went on a 7-0 run. The Golden Griffins led by as much as eight in the first half and led by six, 31-25, at halftime.

The Bulls came out strong in the second half. After Canisius opened with a basket to make it a 33-25 game and an eight point lead, UB went on a 10-1 run over the next four and a half minutes. Nate Johnson (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) had two layups during that stretch, and a layup by Nikolai Alexeev (Minsk, Belarus/Belarus Sports Academy) at the 14:29 mark gave the Bulls the lead at 35-34.

Canisius fought back with tough defense, and responeded with an 11-0 run of their own, giving the Golden Griffins a 45-35 lead with nine minutes remaining. The Bulls could not get any closer than five points the rest of the way as Canisius held on for a 66-56 win.

The Bulls (3-5) were led by Louis Campbell with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting, and he pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Alexei Vasiliev (St. Petersburg, Russia/Russian Junior National) added nine points and dished out five assists as well. UB will now have a week off for final exams before travelling to play at Central Michigan on Dec. 21.
