Last-Second Shot Lifts Western Illinois Past UB

Brandon Creason, Western Illinois' leading scorer, hit his only basket of the game with :12 seconds left Thursday night (2/19) giving the Leathernecks a 68-67 triumph over the University at Buffalo Bulls. UB had just taken the lead on a pair of free throws by senior Mike Martinho with :43 seconds left before Creason hit his clutch shot for his only points.

After a missed free throw by Creason with two seconds left, the Bulls got off one last wild shot that didn't come close.

The Bulls opened a 53-43 lead, their largest of the game, after 4:41 of the second half, then the Leathernecks began to hit from long range. One trey by Bill Heisler and two by Shawn Doles and a layup by Tony Ackerman helped Western take a 54-53 lead. Western stayed in front until the last minute. Martinho led the Bulls with 20 points, while senior Rasaun Young had 15, all in the first half.

The Bulls continues their road trip on Saturday (2/21) at Missouri-Kansas City, before wrapping up the regular season at home on Saturday, February 24 against Chicago State.
