Bulls Lose Thriller In Exhibition Opener

Alexeev and Godwin lead the way in 77-76 loss

The Premier All-Stars got the game-winning basket from former Ohio State standout Jamaal Brown with :04.4 left in regulation and hung on for a 77-76 win over the University at Buffalo in an exhibition game at Alumni Arena Tuesday night.

The Bulls, who trailed 41-36 at halftime, had led for most of the second half before Brown's layup. Premier knocked the ball away from UB on its final possesion as the Bulls did not get a shot attempt.

Buffalo was led by sophomore center Nikolai Alexeev (Vitebysk, Belarus) who hit 7-of-12 shots from the field en route to 17 points. Freshman Koran Godwin (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) added 16 points, including a trio of three- point baskets. Sophomore Louis Campbell (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) added 11 points for the Bulls while senior Nate Johnson (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) added eight points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Bulls shot just 38% for the game and were 8-of-29 from three-point range. Godwin came off the bench to spark the Bulls in the second half, connecting for 12 of his 16 points after intermission. Sophomore point guard Ryan Peterson (Clark, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) - who led all freshman in the nation in assists last season - had seven helpers in 30 minutes of action.

"This was a good experience for an inexperienced team," said Buffalo head coach Tim Cohane who has eight freshmen and sophomores on his roster. "We only had 13 turnovers, we didn't give them any easy baskets and we were aggressive on rebounding. I think that it was good to play a close game."

Freshman guard Alexei Vasiliev (St. Petersburg, Russia), who had eight points, six assists and five rebounds was taken for x-rays on his right foot after the game.
