UB got 22 points from senior Rasau Young, and senior Mike Martinho had 18 as the fifth-seeded Bulls advanced to the semifinals of the 1998 Mid-Continent Conference Tournament with an 81-74 upset win over fourth-seeded Western Illinois. The win was a measure of revenge for UB who had been knocked out of the Mid-Con Tourney by the Leathernecks each of the past two seasons. Seniors Scott McMillin and Matt Clemens scored 14 and 11 points for the Bulls who will face top-seeded and three-time conference champion Valparaiso in the semifinals on Monday evening at 7:00 pm (EST).
