BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo Student Affairs has announced the hiring of James Mauck as Director of Athletic Bands.

"I am excited about the opportunity to direct the UB Marching Band," Mauck said. "I look forward to implementing a new band style that is brass-oriented, with drum corps, precisions drills and with a classical music core."

Mauck comes to UB from Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he was the Assistant Director of the Marching Band. At IUP, Mauck was the Director of the basketball pep band and was the Principal Drill Designer and Instructor of the IUP Marching Band. Prior to being hired at IUP, Mauck founded and directed the Phoenix Drill Design Company. Mauck has also been a brass instructor, drum major instructor, drill designer and drill instructor for several Pennsylvania high schools.

As a performer, Mauck was the principal trombonist in the IUP Wind Ensemble, IUP Symphony Orchestra, IUP Marching Band and IUP Jazz Band and the assistant principal trombonist in the Keystone Wind Ensemble.

Mauck holds a bachelor's degree and master's degree in trombone performance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of the United States Navy, Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Six for six years where he received numerous awards and commendations.
