Rockin’ Rally Kicks Off UB Football Season

UB’s largest football pep rally to feature long-time rocker Eddie Money

BUFFALO, NY — The University at Buffalo will prepare for the 2000 football season with what’s being called "the largest pep rally in school history" on Friday night, August 25th at UB Stadium.

A crowd of over 10,000 is expected to be on hand as the Bulls prepare for the season opener at Syracuse University (Sept. 2) with UB’s "Rockin’ Rally 2000," an event sponsored by the Division of Athletics, the Office of Student Affairs, Star 102.5 and Adelphia.

Attendees will meet the 2000 Bulls’ football team, cheerleaders and marching band all culminating when rocker Eddie Money headlines the show with a performance of hits from his over 20 years as a recording artist. The night will be capped by a giant fireworks display.

The event is free to all UB season ticket holders as well as over 2,500 new UB students who will be on hand for Freshman Orientation that evening. Anyone buying a season ticket to UB football for the 2000 season will automatically receive a ticket to the UB Rockin’ Rally 2000. Season tickets are priced at $65, $50 and $35 and are available now. For those who want to attend just the concert, general admission tickets go on sale on July 10th for $12 each. Gates open at 6:00 pm for the event with local favorites Billy McEwen and the Soul Invaders opening the show.

Money is one of the most popular rock and roll artists of the past two decades. Songs like "Two Tickets To Paradise," "Baby Hold On," "Take Me Home Tonight,", "Shakin,’ " and "Think I’m In Love," reach across generations to build Money a faithful fan base that continues to flock to his shows and buy his records. Money has sold over 12 million records in his career and has had a dozen Top 40 hit singles.

"This is a great way for our fans and the community to get prepared for the football season and cap off the summer," said John Lambert, Senior Assistant Athletic Director for External Relations. "This is an event for people of a ll ages and a great added bonus with the purchase of a season ticket package. For those people who have been loyal season ticket holders since our upgrade began, this is our way of saying thanks. It will also introduce 2,500 new UB students to our campus and the excitement of I-A football."

"We really appreciate the support of Western New York and this should be a great way for people to get ready for the game against Syracuse as well as the season," said UB head coach Craig Cirbus.

The UB Ticket Office phone number is 645-6666 and fans can get their season tickets today to guarantee a seat for this great event.
