Bryan Van Vliet Elected Region I Student Representative of NIRSA

Will begin position on June 18

BUFFALO, NY – Bryan Van Vliet, Student Assistant to the Director of Recreation & Intramural Services at the University at Buffalo, will begin his term as Region I Student Representative of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) on June 18. Van Vliet was recently elected to this office by his peers during the 2008 NIRSA Annual Conference & Recreational Sports Exposition in Austin, Texas.

As one of six Regional Student Representatives, Van Vliet will represent all NIRSA student members in his geographic region and will provide valuable input to the National Student Representative in helping to govern the entire association.

“At NIRSA, it is all about students,” said NIRSA Executive Director Dr. Kent J. Blumenthal, CAE, CRSS. “We need and welcome their input and take pride in giving them opportunities to lead. Bryan is a truly valued member of our association, and I know he will continue to serve it well.”

National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) is the leading resource for professional and student development, education, and research in collegiate recreational sports. Headquartered in Corvallis, Oregon, NIRSA was established in 1950 at a meeting at Dillard University of 22 African-American men and women from 11 Historically Black Colleges and Universities. NIRSA now includes nearly 4,000 highly-trained professional, student and associate members throughout the United States, Canada and other countries. Serving an estimated 5.5 million students who regularly participate in campus recreational sports programs, NIRSA members are actively engaged in many areas of campus life: student leadership, development, and personnel management; wellness and fitness programs; intramural sports; sport clubs; recreation facility operations; outdoor recreation; informal recreation; and aquatic programs.

For further information contact NIRSA, 4185 SW Research Way, Corvallis, OR 97333 or visit the website, www.nirsa.org.
