UB Athletes Nominated for 2009 Buffalo Fan Awards

Bulls nominated for six awards

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo Division of Athletics has been nominated for six awards at the First Buffalo Fan Awards. This year’s event will be held at Shea’s Buffalo Theatre on Pearl Street in Downtown Buffalo on May 21, 2009. This event is designed to showcase on a national level not only the athletic, but also the humanitarian achievements of local student athletes, all while giving reverence to local sports legends. The FAN team is dedicated to honoring the local legends and hometown heroes that diligently contribute their talents and achievements for the enjoyment of sports fans throughout the country.

Ahmad Rashad (CEO & Executive Producer) leads a team of event, website, and sports entertainment professionals dedicated to celebrating Western New York Sports. The star-studded roster of Buffalo sports legends and celebrities will present individual awards to local high school, college, and professional honorees. This year’s presenters will include UB’s own Head Football Coach Turner Gill and Head Basketball Coach Reggie Witherspoon. Other presenters will include NFL Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas, NFL Hall of Famer Jim Kelly, Bills starting quarterback Trent Edwards, Sabres coach Lindy Ruff, Sabres All Star goalie Ryan Miller and many more.

The nominees from UB include a few of UB most outstanding student-athletes. Dan Gwyther, defender for the UB soccer team, and Drew Willy, quarterback for the UB football team, are both nominated for College Scholar Athlete of the Year. Naaman Roosevelt, wide receiver for the UB football team, and Drew Willy are both nominated for Men’s Western New York College Player of the year. Denise Harijanto of the UB Women’s Tennis Team is nominated for Women’s Western New York College Player of the Year. Don’t forget to also vote for Turner Gill as College Coach of the Year and the UB Bulls football team for College Team of the Year.
