Trevor Scott and Ashley Turner Recognized as All-American Athletes
This year, the NSCA awarded 239 collegiate athletes from 165 schools with this esteemed award. Of these 239 athletes, Scott was one of 67 football players recognized. “Trevor is not only the ultimate gym rat, but he is a model football player,” said UB assistant strength coach Brian Remington, who filled out the nominations. “He organizes his sleeping patterns and diet (for optimal recovery) around his training and practices better than any athlete I’ve been around.” After moving from tight end to defensive end before his junior season, Scott recorded 19 sacks in his final two years, earning second-team All-MAC honors and finishing second in the Defensive Player of the Year balloting as a senior. An NFL draft prospect, Scott finished his senior season with 46 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, three forced fumbles and seven quarterback hurries.
Turner was one of only 14 women’s soccer players to receive this distinguished award this year. “Through her hard work both on and off the field, Ashley earned the team’s Most Improved Player Award for the second year in a row,” said Remington. “She was the team’s captain and is a great leader verbally and also sets a great example.” Turner finished her senior season with three goals, including the game-winning goal versus Kent State, three assists and nine points, while recording 25 shots. She also recorded the assist on the lone goal in a 1-0 Bulls win over regular season champion Ball State. Off the field, she has served as the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The NSCA All-American Athlete of the Year Award program is in its 29th year. It recognizes those collegiate athletes, whose athletic accomplishments, in the opinion of their strength, reflect their dedication to strength and conditioning. These athletes are also recognized for their academic and personal accomplishments and their integrity as student athletes. “The advantages of strength training and conditioning cannot be denied in collegiate athletics,” said Robert Jursnick, NSCA’s Executive Director. “These student athletes attest to this understanding, and are to be applauded for their hard work and dedication.”
