Blue & White Drive Hits The Mark
Scholarship fund drive surpasses goal of $500,000
BUFFALO, NY Despite setting the bar higher than ever, the University at Buffalo's Blue &
White Club Scholarship fund drive has once again surpassed its goal.
The fund drive, which has increased from $100,000 just six years ago to a half-million
dollar goal this year, continued its success story this year. Through volunteer efforts under the leadership
of Fund Drive Chair Gary Joseph and Co-Chair Marshall Wood the Blue & White Club raised a total
of $504,870 over a six-week period to support scholarship efforts as the Bulls continue to grow as a
Division I-A institution, one of only three such universities in the state of New York and 115 across
the country.
"To consider where we started just six years ago, with a modest goal of $100,000, to achieve
this success is a testament to the incredible support we have received from many key alumni across
the country and the great support of our mission here in Western New York," said Bob Arkeilpane,
UB's Director of Athletics. " It is even more impressive, and imperative to our growth, that we have seen
such incredible support in our formative years in Division I-A and the Mid-American Conference."
The Blue & White Club drive raised the bar an unprecedented $200,000 after reaching its goal
of $300,000 last year. That made this year's efforts even more impressive, according to Gary Joseph,
Chair of the drive.
"We asked even more of our volunteer group and the many supporters of UB athletics this
year," said Joseph, "and it was extremely gratifying to see not only the continued support of so many, but
the many new faces and first-time contributors who understand the importance of having a quality
Division I-A athletic program in Western New York. Those of us who have given of our time know that
beyond all that UB does for the Western New York community as a world-class university, the future success
of UB athletics will bring increased exposure to our area as well as adding to the overall quality of life."
In its sixth year, the Blue & White Scholarship drive has seen annual proceeds rise
from $118,000 in 1996 to the current figure of $504,870. For further information call the Blue & White
