Silver Creek native has served UB since 1988
BUFFALO, NY Sue Rocque, a 13-year member of the UB athletic training staff, has been named
to the position of head athletic trainer, effective immediately, announced University at Buffalo
Athletics Director Bob Arkeilpane. Rocque replaces Mike Rielly who retired from the position in December
after 26 years of service.
Rocque has served as an assistant athletic trainer at UB since 1988. A native of Silver
Creek, NY, she earned her bachelor's degree in physical education from St. Bonaventure in 1981 before
going on to earn a master's degree in sports health from Texas Tech in 1984 while also serving as a
graduate assistant athletic trainer for the Red Raiders. Prior to joining the UB staff, Rocque served as an
athletic trainer at Fredonia for four years, one as an assistant and three as the head athletic trainer. In
recognition of her commitment and dedication to UB's student-athletes, Rocque was honored with the National
Girls and Women in Sports Day Recognition Award in February of 1999.
"Sue Rocque is incredibly deserving of this opportunity," said Arkeilpane. "Time and again,
her actions have shown her dedication and commitment to the University at Buffalo athletic program and
its student-athletes. She possesses an existing knowledge of UB athletics and a standard of
professionalism and caring that is unparalleled."
Rocque is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Eastern Athletic
Trainers Association and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. During her professional
career, she has worked at the Empire State Games, the World University Games, the New York State
Special Olympics, the Pan American Games and the NCAA Swimming and Diving and Track and
