Bulls Celebrate 17th Annual National Girls And Women In Sports Day

Department-wide celebration headlines women’s basketball senior night against Ohio

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo will celebrate its 17th Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) beginning tonight at 6 pm in Alumni Arena. The celebration will continue through half time of the women’s basketball game vs. Ohio beginning at 7:00 pm.

The theme “Lead like a Champion” will be highlighted with a meet and greet and autographs by Margot Page, coach of the 2006 gold medal Canadian National women’s ice hockey team and current head coach of the Niagara University women’s ice hockey team. Additionally, the Bulls will honor the 2007 UB Recognition Award recipient, Connie Holoman at halftime of the basketball game.

The celebration will also feature UB varsity and club sports interacting with fans at video stations that will showcase award winners, season highlights and Title IX.

NGWSD is a national event in its 21st year that celebrates and honors women’s participation in and contributions to sports around the country and around the world. Throughout its history, NGWSD has evolved into a day to acknowledge the past and recognize current sports achievements, the positive influence of sports participation, and the continuing struggle for equality and access for women in sports.

Tickets for the basketball game can be purchased at the Ticket Office in Alumni Arena. The Celebration is a free event.
