MOVING FORWARDE: A Column by Athletic Director Warde Manuel

WELCOME BACK STUDENTS!

Some people might argue that a game is a game is a game.

However, when it comes to collegiate athletics, a game just isn't the same without a student body. For anyone who was at our basketball game - or saw it on televison - against Pittsburgh right before finals week, they can appreciate the effect that a passionate student body can have on a game. Our students WERE our sixth man that day and they clearly made an impact on the game and our team's efforts.

That's why it's exciting to have our students back on campus, because it isn't the same without you. WE NEED YOU! You make a significant impact on the outcomes of the games. Both our men's and women's basketball teams are in the heart of conference season and they need your support. Both teams are young and improving and are looking to play their best basketball in February and March. I encourage you to come out and support all of our teams. Be LOUD, supportive of UB, and please keep the chants free of profanity.

In addition, our swimming and wrestling teams are both entering the home stretch of their seasons. The men's swimming team will host the Mid-American Conference Championships on February 22-24 in the Alumni Arena Natatorium.

Our wrestling team will also host the MAC Championships on Saturday and Sunday March 3rd and 4th in Alumni Arena. In particular, March 4 is a big day in the Arena as our wrestling team hosts the MAC finals at 11 a.m. - last year saw two Bulls claim MAC titles - while men's basketball will have its senior day later that afternoon against MAC rival Ohio.

We have seen what your support can do for our programs. Its what makes college athletics so great. I look forward to seeing you at the games!
