UB Announces Coaching AdditionsBUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo head coach Craig Cirbus has announced the addition of three coaches: defensive secondary coach Mike Gebbia, defensive line coach Tom Jones and tight ends/assistant offensive line coach Brian Polian to the Bulls football staff. Coach Cirbus also announced the promotion of former defensive line coach Joe Reich to defensive coordinator. Mike Gebbia comes to UB following eight seasons as the full- time defensive backs coach and one season as a part-time defensive backs assistant at Hofstra University. In addition to coaching the Flying Dutchmen defensive backs, Gebbia also served as the team video coordinator and was responsible for recruiting much of Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts. He has also served stints with Temple University as a graduate assistant and Holy Cross as a part-time assistant. Tom Jones joins the Bulls after five seasons at Kent State University where he served in a variety of roles. Responsible for recruiting in Central Ohio, Toledo and Eastern Pennsylvania, Jones had a large role in the Golden Flashes' defense, coaching the safeties (1997), defensive ends (1995-96), outside linebackers (1994) and defensive line (1993). He has also spent time at Western Connecticut State as defensive coordinator and defensive line coach, Idaho State as defensive line and outside linebackers coach, Ohio State as a defensive line assistant, Arizona State as an outside linebackers assistant and New Mexico State also as a defensive line assistant. St. Francis High School graduate Brian Polian joins UB as the tight ends/assistant offensive line coach. Polian, the son of former Buffalo Bills general manager Bill Polian, served last season as an offensive graduate assistant at Michigan State University and was a defensive coaching staff intern with the Carolina Panthers from 1995 to 1997. The senior member of the Bulls' coaching staff, Joe Reich will assume the duties of defensive coordinator for the 1998 season. Reich, the brother of former Buffalo Bills quarterback Frank Reich, has served as UB's defensive line coach for the past five seasons. |
