Bulls Bomb Bald Eagles

Roth runs for four touchdowns as UB improves to 1-1

A balanced offensive attack and four touchdowns by junior fullback Josh Roth (Conewango Valley, NY/Pine Valley) led the Buffalo Bulls to a 40-17 win over Lock Haven University before a UB Stadium record crowd of 20,760 on Saturday night.

The loss snapped a nine-game losing streak dating back to last year for the Bulls. Buffalo pounded out 274 yards on the ground with Roth gaining a career- high 72 yards and senior David Hinson (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) added a career-best 91 yards on 17 carries. Hinson's 17-yard touchdown run with 10:41 left gave the Bulls a 31-17 lead after the Bald Eagles had cut the lead to 24-17 with 13:34 left.

The Bulls jumped to a 24-3 halftime lead as Roth scored from eight yards and one yard out and caught a nine-yard touchdown pass from Chad Salisbury (Newell, PA/Frazier HS). Scott Keller (Amherst, NY/Amherst Central) kicked a 33-yard field as well to help the Bulls to the big halftime edge.

After Lock Haven cut the lead to 24-17, Jamie Allen fumbled a punt by Mike Masucci (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) that was recovered by Javunt Pratt (Rochester, NY/John Marshall). Three plays later Hinson scored from 17 yards out.

After a Lock Haven punt, the Bulls went eight plays and 41 yards for another score with the key play being a 24-yard run by Haddad after a perfect pitch by backup quarterback Mike Gaydosz (Elwood City, PA/Riverside).

The Bulls closed the scoring as Brad Tanton (Vestal, NY/Vestal) sacked Lock Haven punter Robert Glielmi in the end zone to make the score 40-17. Senior Antonio Perry (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) led the Bulls with eight tackles while senior Dan Poulsen (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) had six tackles and 1.5 sacks.

The Bulls travel to Lafayette next Saturday in the first of three straight road games.
