Rusin Out At Least Three Weeks With Elbow InjuryBUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo head coach Craig Cirbus announced today that senior quarterback Erik Rusin (Amherst, NY/Amherst Central) will be out a minimum of three weeks with a right elbow injury suffered during Wednesday's first scrimmage. The injury occurred while Rusin was trying to make a tackle after a turnover in the first half of the scrimmage. The injury is a sprain to the medial collateral ligament of the right throwing elbow. The injury will require a minimum of three weeks of rest and rehab and will be evaluated throughout that period. What makes the situation more complicated for Cirbus is that backup Mike Gaydosz (Ellwood City, PA/Riverside) also left the scrimmage with inflammation of right shoulder tendinitis. "It is extremely premature for me to comment on Erik until he gets at least a day or two of rehab and on Gaydosz until he is evaluated through further testing by the University orthopaedist. Mike will be evaluated sometime on Friday after which time I can better handle anyone's concerns, including my own." Cirbus, however, has gotten good news on another pair of injured Bulls. Senior offensive tackle Joe Hattendorf (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) and sophomore tailback Derrick Gordon (Brooklyn, NY/August Martin) have both been cleared to rejoin the team fully for Friday's practices (August 27th). Hattendorf suffered a right foot injury this summer and is well ahead of schedule for his return. Gordon, meanwhile, had minor surgery for kidney stones last week and has been cleared to practice two weeks ahead of schedule. Coach Cirbus will next be available for comment on Sunday evening at 6:00 pm before the team's next scrimmage. |
