Bulls Announce Non-Conference Football Schedule

Buffalo will open 2001 season by hosting Rutgers on Aug. 30th

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo has confirmed its three non-conference football games for the 2001 season, according to Bob Arkeilpane, Director of Athletics.

The Bulls will open the 2001 season, their first under new head coach Jim Hofher, by hosting the Rutgers Scarlet Knights of the BIG EAST on Thursday, August 30th at 7:00 pm at UB Stadium.

The Bulls non-conference schedule will also include trips to future BIG EAST member Connecticut as well as Army of Conference USA. Buffalo will play Army on Sept. 15th, resuming a series that began in 1960 when the Black Knights took the only other meeting with a 37-0 win at West Point. The Bulls will then travel to Connecticut on Sept. 22nd for another meeting with the Huskies, who defeated Buffalo, 24-21, this past season in Buffalo.

No starting times have been confirmed for either of the non-conference road games.

The Bulls will also play eight Mid-American Conference games in their third season in the league. The Bulls will host East Division opponents Marshall, Ohio and Akron while traveling to Miami, Kent State and Bowling Green. The two Western Division crossover games have yet to be determined.

The Bulls finished 2-4 in the East Division of the MAC in 2000, good for fourth place in just their second season of Division I-A competition.
