More Postseason Honors for UB Football Players
Shannon, Principe and Scott honored
Davonte Shannon | BUFFALO, NY – The postseason honors keep coming for the University at Buffalo football team as three players have earned postseason awards. Davonte Shannon (Jeannette, PA/Jeannette), A.J. Principe (Columbus, OH/St. Francis De Sales) and Trevor Scott (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) have all been honored.
Shannon, a freshman safety, was named to the Scout.com Freshman All-America First Team, Sporting News Freshman All-America Second Team and Rivals.com All-MAC First Team.
Earlier this month, Shannon became the first UB player to be named All-MAC First Team since Buffalo’s entrance into the league in 1999. Shannon finished the season with 123 tackles - the most by a UB player in its Division I-A era. His 73 solo stops were also the most in the D I-A era. The Bulls’ safety led all freshmen in the nation in tackles. He also led the Bulls in passes defended with eight and ranked second on the squad with three interceptions.
A.J. Principe | Principe, the Bulls' freshman kicker, was named Sporting News Freshman All-America Honorable Mention. Originally a walk-on, Principe hit 15-of-20 field goals for the season, including nine straight at one point, and connected on 32-of-34 PATs in the finest freshman season by a kicker in UB’s history. Principe accounted for all of UB’s points with four field goals at Syracuse.
Scott, a second-team All-MAC selection, was named to the Rivals.com All-MAC First Team. He finished second in the conference and 18th in the nation with 10 sacks to go along with 46 tackles (15 for loss), seven quarterback hurries and three forced fumbles. He was a semifinalist for the Ted Hendricks Award and had more sacks per games played (19 sacks in 24 games) than any other player in the nation.
Trevor Scott | At 5-7, the Bulls had their finest season since returning to Division 1-A in 1999. They were the MAC East co-Champions after going 5-3 in the East Division. The Bulls had a record eight players earn All-MAC honors - one more than their first eight years in the league. Buffalo is slated to return 18 of its 22 starters for the 2008 season.
