Avery Earns Academic HonorsBUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo sophomore Andy Avery (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester Adams HS) has earned a berth on the 2001 Verizon All-Academic District I team for his outstanding performances on the field and in the classroom.
Avery, who was admitted to UB's prestigious Honors Program upon enrollment, has started all 10 games this season for the Bulls and has helped Buffalo's offense show steady progress throughout the season. Buffalo has averaged 30.0 points per game in its last three outings and Avery has been a part of an offensive line that has doubled its rushing average per game in the last five weeks. The Bulls are averaging 19.1 points per game and 355.9 yards of total offense per outing - both the best figures that Buffalo has compiled in its three-year Mid-American Conference affiliation. Avery's work at left tackle has helped Buffalo rank fifth in the MAC in passing yards per game (209 ypg) this season as well. Avery, a junior academically, maintains a 3.77 grade point average while pursuing a double major in Psychology and Pre-Med. He has been a Dean's List member, a UB Scholar-Athlete in all four of his previous semesters, a member of the MAC Football Honor Roll and was named the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week following UB's 37-20 road win at Connecticut this season.
