Jamey Richard Chosen To Play in Hula Bowl
Richard, one of the Bulls’ senior captains, and the leader of a Bulls’ offensive line that has helped UB score the most points in their Division I-A history, was notified by the Hula Bowl this week of his selection. He becomes the second Bulls’ player to participate as former tight end/long snapper Adam Johnson played in the game in 2004. “This a great honor for Jamey and for the University at Buffalo football program,” said head coach Turner Gill. “Jamey has been a tremendous football player and leader in our program and he is very deserving of this opportunity to showcase his talents for NFL scouts.” Richard, a two-year captain, has helped Buffalo’s offense set several milestones this season with two games remaining. The Bulls have won four games this season, the most since moving up to Division I-A in 1999, and several individuals are on pace to set school records. Included in that list are tailback James Starks, who needs 88 yards to become UB’s first 1,000 yard rusher since 1996, and quarterback Drew Willy, who needs 15 completions to set a new single-season record. Richard has also been chosen as a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation’s Draddy Award, an honor that is often referred to as the “Academic Heisman.” A Business Administration major with a GPA over 3.3, Richard is one of 153 student-athletes in the running for an award that has been won by the likes of Chad Pennington and Peyton Manning.
