Shaughnessy, Pruce Make Academic TeamBUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo seniors Brandon Shaughnessy (Stafford, NY/LeRoy) and David Pruce (Chardon, OH/Chardon) have both been named as members of the 23-player Verizon District I Football Academic All-American team. Shaughnessy, who maintains a 3.24 grade point average while majoring in history, currently has caught a pass in 10 straight games and ranks fourth on the team with 18 receptions for 196 yards (10.9 per catch). Of Shaughnessy's 18 receptions this year, 11 have gone for first downs and he had a career-high four catches for 46 yards in UB's 20-17 win over Bowling Green. Shaughnessy is a four-year lettermen who has started every game this season. Pruce, meanwhile, has earned a spot on the District I team for the second time in his UB career. The offensive tackle was also named to the team in 1998 when he was part of a UB offensive line that set the single-season rushing record. Pruce holds a 3.53 GPA while majoring in Political Science and is a member of UB's prestigious Taurus Aureus (Golden Bull) Society, an honor that goes to UB athletes with over a cumulative 3.5 GPA or higher while earning a varsity letter. Pruce has started a team-high 34 straight games for the Bulls and this year has helped UB average 310.3 yards of offense per game, including helping quarterback Joe Freedy rank among the Top 25 passers in the nation in receptions per game. Pruce and Shaughnessy bring the number to eight of players from UB honored
on the District I team in the last four years. |
