Freedy Named MAC East Player of WeekBUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo senior quarterback Joe Freedy (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week following his stellar performance in a 44-0 win over Ohio University on Saturday.
Freedy set a season-best for completions and yardage by connecting on 25-of-38 passes for 296 yards and a 43-yard touchdown hookup with freshman Matt Knueven (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) in a 24-point second quarter. The 25 completions were one fewer than his career best and he led a unit that accumulated a season-best 538 yards of total offense. The Bulls also set season-highs for first downs with 26 and the 44 points were the most Buffalo has scored since returning to Division I-A in 1999. Freedy's play helped Buffalo convert 9-of-14 third down conversions with the senior signal-caller accounting for seven of those first downs either running or passing. With his one touchdown pass he also moved into fourth place by himself in UB football history with 32 combined touchdowns between rushing and passing. Freedy also ranks third all-time in UB history in pass attempts (948), completions (491) and passing yardage (5,567) and needs one touchdown pass to tie Chad Salisbury (31) for third place in touchdown passes. Freedy becomes Buffalo's second honoree this season as kicker
