Pelz Earns Two AwardsBUFFALO, NY - Senior kicker Dallas Pelz (Holland, NY/St. Francis) has added conference and national accolades to an already impressive list of accomplishments in the wake of his record-breaking performance on Saturday at Toledo.
Pelz earned the Mid-American Conference East Division Special Teams Player of the Week award for the second straight week and also claimed a spot on the Lou Groza Award's Top Three Stars of the Week after booting a school-record five field goals in the Bulls' 56-29 loss at Toledo. The former All-Western New York selection was a perfect five-for-five in the game, including matching his career-long with a 50-yard boot in the first quarter that made him the school's all-time leader in career field goals. He would go on to add successful kicks from 44, 42, 47 and 39 yards to raise his career total to 33 successful field goals. In addition, he became Buffalo's all-time leading scorer as a kicker with 138 points, tying him for fourth all-time in career scoring with running back O.D. Underwood. His 17 points scored versus Toledo (five field goals and two extra points) are also a school record for a Bulls' kicker and are the most scored by a kicker in the MAC this season. Pelz shared the Groza award with Florida's Todd Leach, who kicked a 33-yard field goal in the final minute to beat Georgia, 16-13, and UNLV's Dillon Pieffer, who had three field goals in the Rebels, 37-35, upset win over New Mexico. For the season, Pelz has now made 12-of-15 field goals - he hasn't missed from inside 40
yards -and is a perfect 12-for-12 on extra points. For his career, Pelz has connected on 33-of-46 field
goals (72%). |
