Bulls Look to Build on Momentum Against Akron UB hopes to make it three straight wins against the Zips
The Bulls (2-4, 0-2 MAC) are coming off a crushing 40-3 win over Gardner-Webb. Buffalo led 33-3 at halftime and never looked back. “That was our best overall game we’ve played in a long time,” said head coach Turner Gill. “The guys played with great intensity, the execution was excellent, I liked where our passion was and I liked the way our coaches worked with them during the week and saw it translate into the game.” The Bulls were able to amass a season-best 508 yards of total offense. The Bulls rushed for a season-high 250 yards, while gaining 258 yards through the air. Buffalo came away with a 43-40 quadruple overtime win over the Zips last season. “There is a belief when you’ve done something one time that you’ll be able to do it again,” said Gill. “We know what happened last year, it’s a new year, we need to be focused on ourselves and execute well and we will have a very good chance of coming away with a win." The Zips have been hit with the injury bug and will be starting third-string quarterback Patrick Nicely against the Bulls. “I thought he did a good job playing in the second half,” said Gill of Nicely’s performance last week. “His best asset is that he can throw the ball very well. The Zips (1-4, 0-2 MAC) are coming off a 19-7 loss to MAC foe Ohio. Akron leads the all time series 8-2. However, the Bulls have won the last two meetings. Most recent was last year’s 43-40 four-overtime win at the Rubber Bowl. Tickets are available at the UB ticket office or by calling 1-877-UB-THERE. The game will be televised live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet. As always, the game can be heard on 1230 AM WECK in Buffalo as well as 1280 AM and 107.3 FM in Rochester. Written by Zach Ruske
