Woods Earns MAC Player of Week HonorsBUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo freshman kicker Ben Woods (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) earned Mid-American Conference East Division Special Teams Player of the Week honors on Monday after a strong performance in Buffalo's 48-20 win over UCF on Saturday night.
Woods averaged 46.7 yards per punt versus UCF and also had nine kickoffs, one that went for a touchback, while the Knights averaged just 18.6 yards per return. Thus far in 2004, Woods is averaging 42.6 yards per punt and has had four kicks downed inside the 20. He has also handled most of the kickoff duties and has helped the Bulls hold teams to just over 20 yards per return. At his current pace, Woods would break the UB single-season record for punting average in a season of 41.4 by Mike Masucci in 2000. Woods becomes Buffalo's second player this year to earn MAC recognition. Defensive
end Aaron Sanders (Clarence, NY/St.
Joseph's), who currently leads Buffalo with 4.5 sacks, earned
Defensive honors after Buffalo's opener versus Eastern Michigan. |
