Bulls Back Home to Face Central Michigan UB to play first of three straight home games
“We are excited and ready for the game,” said head coach Turner Gill. “We have another chance to play and get better as a team.” The Bulls are 1-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play and are coming off a disappointing loss to Temple. UB’s five turnovers deemed too much to overcome as Temple capitalized and put the game out of reach. “Ours guys showed great effort,” said Gill. “We played hard, no matter what happened.” Despite starting the season 1-3 and dropping the MAC opener, Gill is very confident in the Bulls’ ability this weekend. “It’s early in the conference play. We still can accomplish what we want,” said Gill. “Everything is correctable and we control how good we can be.” The Bulls will be looking to avenge last year’s heartbreaking last-second loss to the Chippewas. Buffalo’s potential game-winning field goal glanced off the upright allowing the Chippewas to escape with a 27-25 victory. “We’re looking forward to the game and happy to get another shot at the Chippewas,” said junior offensive lineman Peter Bittner. The Bulls will have their hands full with Central Michigan’s high-powered offense, led by senior All-MAC quarterback Dan LeFevour. The Chippewas’ senior signal caller has thrown for over 10,000 yards in his career. “They are a very good offensive football team,” said Gill. The Chippewas are 3-1 on the year and are coming off a 48-21 win over Akron. LeFevour accounted for 337 yards of total offense (140 rushing, 197 pass) and six touchdowns (four passing, two rushing). The Bulls will look to their defense to step up and keep LeFevour in check. “Our defense has improved and is continuing to improve,” said Gill, “The key is tackling. If we tackle well, we will have a very good chance of keeping him in check.” Saturday will mark the third time in the last four years that the Bulls and Chippewas will meet. Central Michigan holds a 5-1 advantage in the all-time series. The game will be televised live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet. As always, the game can be heard on 1230 AM WECK in Buffalo as well as 1280 AM and 107.3 FM in Rochester. Written by Zach Ruske
