BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo offensive tackle Andy Avery (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester Adams HS) was named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week for his efforts in leading the Bulls to a 37-20 win at Connecticut on Saturday. Avery was part of an offensive line that allowed the Bulls to rack up 314 yards in the second half alone while scoring 34 unanswered points in the win. Avery, a sophomore, is in his first season of starting at left tackle for the Bulls and was part of a unit that allowed sophomore Marquis Dwarte (Baltimore, MD/Perry Hall) to rush for 150 yards on 25 carries (128 of them in the second half).

Avery, who was admitted into UB's prestigious Honors Program upon his enrollment at UB, carries a 3.77 grade point average while working towards a double major in Psychology and Pre-Med. He has been a Dean's List student and both a UB and Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete throughout his academic career.

Avery aspires to become a psychiatrist and has volunteered his time at the North Oakland Medical Center in the Detroit suburbs as well as the Boys and Girls Club.
