Pelz Earns Mid-American Conference AwardBUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo sophomore placekicker Dallas Pelz (Holland, NY/St. Francis) earned accolades today from the Mid-American Conference after UB's 37-20 victory at Connecticut on Saturday.
The former All-Western New York player was named the MAC East Division Special Teams Player of the Week after he kicked the first three field goals of his career and was perfect on four PATs in the game. Pelz, who assumed the placekicking duties this season, opened the scoring with a 36-yard field goal in the first quarter, tied the game with a 32-yard field goal in the third quarter and put the game away with a 37-yarder to give the Bulls a 30-13 lead with 5:05 remaining. He became the first Buffalo kicker to boot three field goals in a game since Scott Keller turned the trick at Lafayette back in 1998. He also had seven kickoffs, one of which went for a touchback, which were returned for an average of just 16.5 yards per return. He is now 3-for-4 on field goals for the season and a perfect 5-for-5 on PATs. Pelz becomes the third UB player in their MAC history to earn MAC Player of the Week
honors. Previously Craig Rohlfs (1999) and Duane Williams (2000) earned the distinction. |
