BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo gridder Chad Upshaw (Southport, CT/St. Joseph’s) has been named one of the top 25 tight ends in the nation by College Football News. The senior tight end is ranked 22nd by the online publication.

Upshaw, who was also a first-team preseason All-MAC selection by CollegeFootballNews.com and Phil Steele, was the only tight end from the Mid-American Conference to make the list.

Upshaw is coming off the most productive season of his career. In 2005, he pulled in 37 catches for 359 yards and three touchdowns. His best game of the season came against Ohio when he totaled eight catches for 116 yards.

Upshaw wasn’t the only Bull to receive preseason honors. Junior defensive back Kareem Byrom (New Brunswick, NJ/New Brunswick) was named to the MAC Report Online Preseason All-MAC Second Team.

UB will kick-off the 2006 campaign on August 31 when it hosts Temple at UB Stadium.
