Drew Willy Signs with the Baltimore Ravens Record-setting quarterback becomes 21st UB player since 1997 to sign an NFL contract
Willy is the most prolific passer in UB’s nearly 100 years of collegiate football and helped lead Buffalo to unprecedented success at the Division I level. As a senior, Willy completed nearly 63 percent of his passes for a school-record 3,304 yards and a school record 25 touchdowns with just six interceptions. His clutch performances under center, including four wins when the Bulls trailed in the fourth quarter or overtime, helped lead Buffalo to its second straight Mid-American Conference East Division title and its first-ever championship in a stunning 42-24 win over 12th-ranked Ball State in the MAC Championship. Willy helped lead the Bulls to its first-ever appearance in a bowl game as Buffalo faced Connecticut in the International Bowl in Toronto’s Rogers Centre on Jan. 5. He also became a household name for his “Hail Mary” game-winning 35-yard touchdown pass to Naaman Roosevelt that defeated Temple 30-28 on the game’s final play of regulation. For his career, Willy set school records for completions (849), attempts (1,322), passing yards (8,748), touchdowns (52), total offense (8,639) and completion percentage (64.2) as a four-year starter. He started in 42 of 49 games in his college career – including the final 26 – and in his final 20 games he threw for a staggering 36 touchdowns and only six interceptions. Following his senior season, Willy was invited to play in the Texas vs. the Nation game, where he threw a touchdown pass to lead The Nation to the victory, and also earned an invite to the NFL Combine.
